Saint Fiacre of Breuil (c. AD 600 – 18 August 670), the Catholic priest, abbot, hermit, and gardener of the seventh century was famous for his sanctity and skill in curing infirmities. He emigrated from his native Ireland to France, where he constructed for himself a hermitage together with a vegetable and herb garden, oratory, and hospice for travelers. He is the patron saint of gardeners. We find it very fitting that Saint Fiacre is watching over the Carondelet Garden. Today is a day he would love. The Irish saint would be quite familiar with a day filled with lots of clouds and a wee soft rain this afternoon. The winds will be out of the WNW at 10 to 15 MPH. We are anxiously awaiting the beginning of Spring but today will give us the rain we need for the garden to thrive. Balance is good. So be kind to yourself today!
