Hellebores get their common name, Lenten rose, from the rose-like flowers that appear in early spring around the time of Lent. The “blooms” (which are actually sepals that protect the true flowers) last for several months, from February until May, and the foliage is evergreen.  What a lovely way to bring a bit of grace right now.

The world is a lot.  I have no words of great importance.  It's hard to comprehend the evil that happens in schools and neighborhoods and cities all around our country.  It's just... a lot.  Yes, we offer our thoughts and prayers.  I do believe that is good!  I really do but I know it's not enough.  The question I cannot answer is how do we create permanent change?  I'm an old man with almost no influence in the real world.  What can I do?  Yes, of course, Prayer first.  Writing your Senators and Representatives.  Okay, that's a start.  Give some money to the organizations who are doing the footwork.  That works as well.  I'm struggling for the parents, the administrators and the teachers in schools all across the country.  I was an educator for a very long time.  It was a very real presence especially at the end of my career.  It's only gotten worse!  I have no answer.  But I know we cannot forget.
