"Come... and I will give you rest."
-Matthew 11:28 "Coorie in." The Scots say. Come in! Be safe. Be warm. Be welcome. Come in from the storm and be safe and dry. Come and be cozy and well. Coorie in. I love the sound and the goodness of that phrase. Come in and be safe. So often we don't realize the heavy burdens we are carrying until we arrive at a safe harbor, a quiet place of unburdening. Jimmy Buffett wrote a song about this called "One Particular Harbor." It says, "There's this one particular harbor. So far and yet so near. I see the days as they fade away, and finally disappear. A most mysterious calming harbor, sheltered from the wind. Where the children play on the shore each day and all are safe within." I can't listen to this song without hearing, "Coorie in" Be safe and dry from the storm. Be cozy and well. Unburden yourself. My prayer today is to be a more welcoming presence in this broken world. To offer a welcoming place to coorie in. Coorie in to a kind and gentle welcome that will be truly irresistible. "Come... and I will give you rest." Amen.
