Day: 89-degrees | Night: 65-degrees
It's election day here in the Carondelet neighborhood of South Saint Louis. It's only to fill a vacancy and then for a very short tenure as the redistricting and reduction in the Board of Aldermen will change the boundaries and all sorts of things will be different. Because of all of the changes only one person is running for the job. We thought about just skipping the election. Why bother? There's only one candidate. We assume they will vote for themselves. They win, right? Then we began to think about how easy it will be to just stop voting. The complacency can set in pretty quickly. Sometimes we feel like our votes really don't matter anyway. That's where the trouble begins for me. I can, if I'm not careful, be a pessimist. I can become that old man and curmudgeon. He's inside crying to get out some days. So, I vote. Keep the pessimist unfed. Fight my inner curmudgeon. Keep hope alive. Keep fighting the good fight and do the best I can for as long as I can. It's a privilege and my right as a citizen. I vote. It is warm but lovely outside in the Garden this morning. The humidity is down, and the sun is shining. We are back on the watering routine, but that's okay. There's going to be a lot of sunshine today. Winds will be out of the North at 10 to 15 MPH. Quite nice for a Saint Louis Summer! Be good and be kind to yourself and others as you make your journey today. Keep hope alive. Have a great Tuesday Gardening Friends!
