A beautiful first Friday of November kind of morning here in the Carondelet Garden. The sun is brightly shining and the skies are clear over South Saint Louis. It looks to be a stunning day with highs in the low 60s. The perfect day to get in a bit of last-minute garden cleanup after last week's heavy frost.
We are going to wait until mid-November to pull the Dahlias. Give them a bit of time to go to "sleep." Then we will pull them and allow them to dry out a bit after knocking off the excess dirt. Clip the extraneous leaves to about 3 or 4 inches and then store in the colder part of the basement in a box with spent soil until the late Winter/early Spring. The Blue Lupines in the picture are hanging in there. I grew them from seed planted back in late June. Much too late to plant from seed, I know. They took a while to get settled. They seem to be handling things pretty well right now, even after the cold spell. I'm hoping to see them blossoming in the Spring. Here's to eternal hope! The gardener's best friend! It's been a busy week here in the garden. Day trips, fun adventures with little ones, visits with old friends and sharing memories. It's a good time to have a bit of hope, keep the faith alive, and share as much love as possible. That's all the news from here in the Carondelet Garden.
