It's a cloudy, wet, chilly morning here in the Carondelet Garden on this first Friday of December. The Lupines were absolutely stunning sporting their small drops of heavenly moisture in the side garden. Overcast skies are expected for the rest of the day with a slight chance of some more rain. It's going to be pretty pleasant with highs in the upper 50s.
I know that Winter doesn't officially begin until later this month but flipping the calendar page to December always feels like the unofficial beginning to this old gardener. The air just feels a bit different going forward. You feel the change in the air, and you know what is coming. The garden is in pretty good shape right now. The last of the tulips were finally planted. The last Hellebore was planted in a place of honor. The beds are almost ready for their long Winter's nap. It's a good feeling knowing things are in good shape. We will starting our Sweet Pea seedlings soon which is always exciting. Gardening continues no matter the season. I'm enjoying going back through some of the photographs of the garden over the past few years. It is a very useful method of mapping out the seasons. It's also a great record of what was planted where and what worked (and what did not work!) I'm always amazed at my memory of certain things. Sometimes I remember it being much worse that it was. Sometimes, simply the opposite is true. It's a good day for a bit of kindness filled with some faith, a bit of hope and as much love as we can share. That's all the news from here in the Carondelet Garden.
